Planning to stay longer? The Malaysia visa finder shows the long-stay passes that fit you, and the 182-day counter shows when long stays make you a tax resident.
Frequently asked questions
How long can I stay in Malaysia without a visa?
It depends on your passport. Visitors from the US, UK, EU countries, Australia, Japan, South Korea and many others usually get 90 days. Most ASEAN nationals, and visitors from China and India, get 30 days. Some nationalities need a visa before they travel. The officer at the airport or border decides the stay and writes it in your record, so always check that date.
Do I need to fill in the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)?
Yes, most visitors must submit the MDAC online in the 3 days before they arrive. It is free on the official Immigration website; other sites that charge a fee are not official. Singapore citizens, transit passengers who do not pass immigration, and holders of Malaysian long-term passes are among those who do not need it.
What happens if I overstay in Malaysia?
Since September 2025 Immigration charges a compound of RM30 a day for up to 30 days (at most RM900), RM1,000 for 31 to 60 days and RM2,000 for 61 to 90 days. Over 90 days there is no compound and the case goes to court. Overstayers can also be detained, deported at their own cost and banned from returning.
Does the day I arrive count?
This calculator counts the day you arrive as day 1, which gives the earliest likely last day. The date that counts is the one Immigration gives you on entry, so check your passport stamp or entry record.
Can I work on a visa-free stay?
No. Visa-free entry is for tourism and social visits. To work, you need a pass such as an Employment Pass or the DE Rantau nomad pass. Use the Malaysia visa finder to see which fits you.
How long must my passport be valid?
At least 6 months from the day you arrive.
